What a night for Drew Stafford! Stafford recorded his 3rd career hat trick as the Buffalo Sabres defeated the Boston Bruins at home 3-2 on Wednesday night.
The Bruins opened up the scoring on a David Krejci goal to go ahead 1-0. But little over a minute later, Drew Stafford answered for the Sabres with his first goal of the night to tie the game at 1-1.
Not much happened in the second period as neither team scored. The game entered the 3rd period tied at 1-1.
Six minutes into the 3rd period, Michael Ryder scored a power play goal to give Boston the 1 goal lead again. But, the lead was short lived as Drew Stafford responded 32 seconds later to tie the game at 2-2.
Stafford wasn't done though. He was determined to get the hat trick and completed it with his third goal of the game with 9:05 left in the 3rd period to put Buffalo ahead 3-2.
Buffalo held on to the lead and went on to defeat the Boston Bruins 3-2. It was a big win for Buffalo as it brings them within 6 points of Boston and Tampa Bay for the final playoff spot in the eastern conference.
Obviously, Drew Stafford was the star of the game but he wouldn't of had the game he did with out Derek Roy. Roy assisted Stafford on all three of his goals and finished the night with 3 points.
At the end of the game, their was a skirmish between both teams as Ryan Miller pushed Zedeno Chara. Chara retaliated and nudged Miller after the whistle.
Players on the ice from both teams pushed and shoved each other until referees broke it up. Boston took a few extra shots at Buffalo players but nothing serious became of the event.
