Buffalo Goes on Scoring Spree as they Defeat San Jose 6-3

The Buffalo Sabres must be in the holiday spirit. The NHL's 25th ranked offense was in a taking mood as they went on a scoring spree in a 6-3 victory over San Jose on Thursday.

The game started in Buffalo's favor as they got off to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd period. Paul Gaustad scored his 2nd goal of the season to put the Sabres ahead 1-0. Then, Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville followed him up to put the Sabres up 3-0.

Normally a three goal lead is a safe lead, but against the San Jose Sharks, there is no such thing as a safe lead. The Sharks came back from a 4-1 deficit on Wednesday to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in a shootout.

It looked like the Sharks would repeat yesterday's performance with another comeback tonight. Logan Couture and Marc-Edoard Vlasic scored back to back goals for San Jose to get them within one late in the second period.

The Sharks were trying to get back into the game when Cody McCormick scored a stunning goal 31 seconds into the 3rd period. McCormick is known more as a tough guy than a goal scorer but on this night, he was Wayne Gretzky. McCormick scored a goal and recorded two assists as the Sabres went up 4-2.

San Jose would get within one later in the 3rd on a Douglas Martin goal but that would be as close as they would get as they went on to lose 6-3.

Paul Gaustad added his second goal of the game on an empty net and Vanek scored shortly after with few seconds remaining in the game.

With the win, the Sabres gain some confidence as they have started to play better hockey as of late. They hope to carry this down into the middle stretch of the season.

The Sabres next play Saturday December 11th against the red hot Pittsburgh Penguins
