AP: Cliff Lee Signs With Phillies for 5-Years $120 Million

Well, that didn't take long. Just minutes after posting that Cliff Lee has informed the Yankees that he will not sign with them, the Associated Press has announced that Cliff Lee has come to a preliminary agreement with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cliff Lee had informed the Yankees and the Rangers that he will not sign with them.

The terms of the contract are for 5 years and $120 million dollars. Lee will return to the Phillies where he last pitched in 2009 when they reached the World Series vs. the New York Yankees.

New York was rumored to have offered Lee 6 years at $138 million dollars with a 7th year option worth $16 million but Lee turned the offer down to join the Phillies.

He pitched wonderfully for the Phillies in 2009 and didn't lose a postseason game. However, he was traded to Seattle in the offseason to make room for Roy Halladay.

Phillies fans didn't understand why the Phillies would trade Lee to Seattle when they had an opportunity to have two of the top pitchers in baseball. Fans just wished that the team had kept both Halladay and Lee.

Well, now the Phillies fans wish has come true and they have two of the top two pitchers in baseball in one rotation.
