Well, it doesn't look good for the Sabres this year. They entered their 2 game west coast road trip hoping to change their luck but their play looked the same as they lost 5-2 to the Calgary Flames.
On top of that, the Sabres also learned over the weekend that their leading scorer Derek Roy will be out 4-6 months. With all this bad news recently, I wouldn't bet on the Sabres making the playoffs this season.
Now back to the action:
The game actually started out well for the Sabres as Drew Stafford got them on the board first to go up 1-0. But their lead was not a sign of things to come.
The Flames responded by scoring 4 unanswered goals in the 2nd and 3rd period and went ahead 4-1.
Scoring for the Flames were Oli Jokinen, Jarome Iginla, former Sabre Ales Kotalik, and David Moss.
Patrick Kaleta scored a late 3rd period goal to bring the Sabres within two but it was too little too late.
Tom Kostopoulos scored with 1 second left in the game and the Flames went on to win 5-2.
The Sabres have little time to dwell on the loss as they play tomorrow night in Edmonton.
