In a rivalry game, anything can happen. A classic case of that occurred Saturday afternoon in Olean. St. Bonaventure played a poor game and as a result, lost to Niagara 69-61.
The game was even more surprising considering each team's last game. St. Bonaventure was coming off an upset win against Big East school St. John's while Niagara entered coming off a blowout loss to Big 4 rival Buffalo.
The game was close throughout and entered halftime with Niagara up 4 at 30-26. Niagara continued to build its lead in the second half and won 69-61.
Anthony Nelson had a huge game for the Purple Eagles going for 24 points and 6 steals. Nelson is becoming Niagara's go to guy. He scores, he passes, and he creates turnovers. He was all over the court on Saturday and created a ton of problems for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies had four players score in double-digits and two players record double-doubles but it wasn't enough to pull off the victory. Andrew Nicholson had a huge game like he always does going for 17 points and 12 rebounds. Da'Quan Cook also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, Niagara moves to 3-7 and next plays December 19th at Central Connecticut State.
On the other side of the ball, St. Bonaventure falls to 5-3 with the loss and doesn't play until December 18th when they take on Ohio University.
