Canisius Falls to Iona in MAAC Opener


Elton Frazier scored 26 points and had 9 rebounds for the Golden Griffins but it wasn't enough as Canisius lost to Iona 94-85.

The game was close throughout the first half until Iona went on a mini run to take a 45-34 lead into the half.

Iona extended their lead up to 18 in the second half forcing Canisius to play catch up basketball throughout the second half. The Golden Griffins cut the lead all the way down to five with four and a half minutes left in the second half but Iona would later put the game away.

Michael Glover and Scott Machado had great games for Iona. Glover recorded 39 points and 14 rebounds. He was a force all over the court. Machado also recorded a double-double as he scored 18 points and had 11 assists.

Elton Frazier and Julius Coles had good games for Canisius in the losing effort. As stated earlier, Frazier went off for 26 points and 9 rebounds. Coles had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

With the loss, Canisius falls to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC. Canisius' next game is Sunday at Marist.
