Overview
As of now, Ohio University is 5-3 and has an rpi of 62.
They have good wins over teams such as Valparaiso and Illinois State.
They also have some questionable losses vs. Oakland and Marshall.
Ohio has played decent basketball to this point of the season but something seems to be missing. They can not put teams away and have struggled against good competition.
They have lost to the three best teams on their schedule including a 57 point loss to Kansas.
Yet, they have what it takes to improve on their record. Ohio has 6 non-conference games remaining until the MAC portion of their schedule begins with the best games being at St. Bonaventure and at home vs. Temple.
How they handle the rest of their non-conference schedule will be vital in determining if Ohio has the potential to make a run in March.
Stand Out Players
The title should really be stand out "player." D.J. Cooper has been sensational to this point of the season. He has stepped his game up from last season and has been averaging 19.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 3 steals per game.
Cooper is the star that keeps Ohio on track. Without him, this team would be nothing. He is having a great year and Ohio needs him to keep it up.
Possible Break Out Player
Nick Kellogg looks like he is going to be a good player down the line for Ohio. The son of CBS announcer Clark Kellogg is finally starting to have some break out games for the cats. Against Illinois State, Kellogg went off for 19 points. He is getting good minutes and look for that to continue.
Disappointing Players
Its not good when the top senior on your team falls into this category but so far this year, DeVaughn Washington fits this category perfectly
Washington had great expectations coming into the season with people saying that he is an All-MAC caliber talent. You wouldn't know it if you've watched him this year. Washington has been coming off the bench this season and only averages 9.3 points per game. Also, to make matters worse, he is getting out rebounded by D.J. Cooper.
Outlook
Despite all my negativity, Ohio's outlook looks bright. They are one of the top teams in the MAC. If they finish the non-conference season strong, they should be in line for a good season.
