Well, this was unexpected.
Just two months ago when the Bills picked up Shawne Merriman off waivers, the supposed media "experts" said that there was no chance that Merriman would re-sign with the Bills.
They said that he hated the Buffalo weather, couldn't take losing, and just wasn't a fit in Buffalo.
Well, I guess the experts were wrong or money talks.
On Saturday, Merriman signed a 2-year extension with the Bills that will keep him in Buffalo through the 2012 season.
He will be paid an average of $5.25 million dollars per season that could go up to $9.25 million dollars a season if he meets certain incentives.
Of the entire contract, only $2.5 million dollars is guaranteed.
The deal makes a ton of sense for the Bills and is low risk.
If he doesn't play well or gets injured, he won't meet the incentives and his salary won't hurt the Bills. If he does play well and meets the incentives, the Bills will be more than happy to pay him his worth.
Let's just hope that Merriman returns to his old form and turns the "Lights On" in Buffalo.
