Dave Wannstedt is returning to the NFL and he is coming to the Buffalo Bills.
He will take over as the Bills Linebackers Coach as well as receiving the title of assistant head coach.
He's coming off of a 7-5 season as the head coach for the University of Pittsburgh where he coached for six seasons. He was forced to resign after the Panthers disappointing season.
Wannstedt has previously been a head coach in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins as well as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins.
The move to bring in Wannstedt shows that the Bills are finally serious about turning around the team. They recognize that their defense was awful last year and they need to fix it.
The Bills have one of the worst linebacker corps I have ever seen and Wannstedt has a lot of work to do.
With that being said, I think Wannstedt is the right guy for the job and will help improve this team.
This also could be bait to try to bring in some decent players in free agency for the Bills.
Earlier in the month, the Bills re-signed Shawne Merriman to a two-year contract. Merriman stated that he was going to try to recruit players to come play for the Bills.
The addition of Wannstedt makes coming to the Bills even more appealing now. It shows that the Bills are tired of losing and have a new attitude. That may be attractive to players who may want to be part of the "turning around" project.
"Cores" should be "corps." "They recognize that there defense" should be "They recognize that their defense." These are just the things that I'd expect a 2nd-year journalism major, let alone anyone with an IQ above room-temperature, to pick up on. But my big question is this- why would hiring a guy that just got fired from fucking PITT make the Bills more appealing?
ReplyDelete1st- I'm sorry for making a few grammatical errors. I was busy and wrote this very quickly without editing.... Not acceptable but it happened. BTW, I'm more heavily focused on the broadcast side than the writing side.
ReplyDelete2nd- The Bills are one of the worst teams in the league. There is hardly anything that about them that sticks out. However, they are trying to turn the team around.
Wannstedt has a proven track record as a defensive coordinator and should improve the Bills linebacking corps as the LB coach.
He was not hired to be a head coach so we shouldn't evaluate him solely on his head coaching experience. And also, he was not awful at PITT. He wasn't as good as he was expected but he did do okay there.
How do the Bills become more appealing? They become more appealing because they are trying to target free agents. How does a bad team bring in decent free agents?
they either pay them the money or show a commitment to turning the ship around. By re-signing Merriman and hiring Wannstedt (who was wanted by other NFL teams), it shows that the Bills are trying to improve.
Thus becoming more appealing to free agents.
That's my response.
