Ohio Blows Out Eastern Michigan

Well, you figured that Ohio had to win sometime. Heck, even with all the losing, most people had to think that Ohio would beat Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night. And they did do that.

Not only did Ohio defeat Eastern Michigan, they humiliated them. Ohio led by as many as 28 points before winning 79-65.

The blowout came in front of the smallest home crowd of the conference season to this point for Ohio as only 3,949 people showed up to the Convocation Center.

Ohio got ahead early despite sloppy play early on before running away with the game. They entered halftime up 16 points at 45-29.

Ohio got its largest lead of 28 points midway through the second half when DeVaughn Washington made a layup.

That would be their largest lead as Ohio inserted all of their backups soon after.

With the backups in, Ohio saw their large lead dwindle all the way down to 14 points.

Despite Eastern Michigan's slight comeback, it was way too late in the game for them to actually comeback all the way and win.

However, it was early enough for Ohio head coach John Groce to pull all of his bench players in favor of his starters with a minute remaining in the second half. Groce explained after the game how it was a teaching moment for the rest of the team.

Multiple things went right for Ohio that led to the rout.

For the first time in a while, Ohio led the rebounding battle versus an opponent. Ohio out-rebounded Eastern Michigan 36-23.

Ohio shot 54% from the field and forced Eastern Michigan into 17 turnovers.

It was one of Ohio's finest efforts of the season with the outcome of the game never in doubt. Groce played the entire bench as 12 players saw game action.

DeVaughn Washington had the best game of any Bobcats as he nearly had a double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

D.J. Cooper also had a good game recording 12 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds on only 3-4 shooting.

Also having a good game was Nick Kellogg as he had 15 points on 5-7 shooting. He's starting to look comfortable and is starting to make an impact on the team.

With the win, Ohio moves to 9-11 (2-4) and next plays January 29th at Ball State.
