Ohio University Takes on Kent State in Must-Win Game

Ohio vs. Kent State

When you look at the records, this wouldn't appear as an important game. Ohio enters Friday's game at 8-3 (5-1) and Kent State enters at 4-7 (3-4). This would appear to be just a normal regular season MAC game but it isn't. With Miami's win over Temple on Tuesday, Ohio must win against Kent State in order to advance to the MAC Championship game. Ohio would gain a share of the MAC East title but win the tie-breaker vs. Miami because of their head-to-head victory over the Redhawks.

On paper, this game should go to Ohio. Ohio is on a seven game winning streak and has defeated tough MAC opponents Miami (ohio) and Temple. Kent State enters this game as losers of three straight having lost all opportunity to go to a bowl game. But, this battle will be fought on the field. Last year, Kent State shocked Ohio at Peden Stadium. They are confident that they can do it again this year.

Kent State has a good receiving core in Tyshon Goode and Sam Kirkland. Through 11 games, the duo has combined for 108 receptions, 1,270 yards, and 6 touchdowns. If Ohio stops them, they should be in a good position to win. Kent State has a very poor rushing attack that has only averaged 3.5 yard per carry this season. On top of that, Kent State's defense is average at best and Ohio should be able to move the ball against them.

Ohio is a very balanced team led by their defense. Their defense has a great defensive line and a very good secondary. They only allow 21.2 points per game and have dominated teams in the MAC. The offense is very balanced passing for 160 yards per game and rushing for 180 yards per game. Boo Jackson is having a great year passing and rushing and Phil Bates has looked good when he comes into the game at quarterback. I expect Ohio to be all over Kent State on Friday.

Prediction: Ohio 31-13
