ACC/Big Ten Challenge Tips Off Tonight

For me, the college basketball season doesn't really begin until the ACC/Big Ten challenge takes place. While technically speaking, the challenge began yesterday with Virginia's upset win over Minnesota, the first major onslaught of games occurs today so my focus is on the games taking place today and tomorrow.

While the more exciting games occur tomorrow, here are the games taking place today:

Tuesday:
7:00pm (espn2) Georgia Tech @ Northwestern
7:00pm (espnu) Iowa @ Wake Forest
7:30pm (espn) Ohio State @ Florida State
9:00pm (espn2) Michigan @ Clemson
9:30 (espn) North Carolina @ Illinois

Among those match-ups, the most exciting games to me are Ohio State-Florida State and North Carolina-Illinois.

Ohio State is a very good team poised to go far in the NCAA tournament this year lead by Jared Sullinger. They have to travel on the road to take on Florida State in a tough place to play. Ohio State has already beaten Florida State's rival Florida on the road this year. Can they make it two for two against the top Florida teams?

Then, North Carolina-Illinois stands out to me. Both teams started the year in the top25. Only Illinois remains there at this point of the season. UNC is lead by super freshmen Harrison Barnes. Barnes is the first freshmen ever to be named a pre-season all-american. Illinois is lead by Demetri McCamey. McCamey is having a great start to the season so far averaging 15 points per game and 7.7 assists per game.

Those are the two match-ups that intrigue me the most on Tuesday. Now on to picks:

Georgia Tech @ Northwestern: Northwestern
Iowa @ Wake Forest: Iowa
Ohio State @ Florida State: Ohio State
Michigan @ Clemson: Clemson
North Carolina @ Illinois: North Carolina

ACC/Big Ten Challenge Winner: ACC (6-5)

I'll have an update tomorrow on the results of Tuesday's games and a preview of Wednesday's games.
