Sabres Take Down Florida In Overtime: Move Within Two Points of Playoffs


The Sabres are inching closer and closer to the 8th and final playoff spot in the eastern conference. Buffalo defeated Florida 3-2 in overtime on a Tyler Myers goal with 5 seconds remaining in overtime to move within two points of the final playoff spot in the eastern conference.

The game got off to a slow start as neither team scored in the first period.

In the second period, Buffalo opened up the scoring when Mike Weber lit the lamp for his third goal of the season.

Unfortunately for the Sabres, Florida responded later in the period when Steve Bernier scored to tie the game up at 1-1.

It was much the same in the third period.

Thomas Vanek scored for Buffalo midway through the third period to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead but Marty Reasoner responded a minute later for the Panthers to tie the game at 2-2.

The game would remain tied at 2-2 and head into overtime.

It appeared that the game was bound for a shootout when Tyler Myers scored with five seconds remaining to give the Sabres the 3-2 win.

The win brings the Sabres within 2 points of Carolina for the final playoff spot in the eastern conference with two games in hand.

The Sabres have been playing great as of late and it has shown in the win column as well as the box score.

After a poor start, the Sabres finally appear to be on a roll winning their last three games and seven of their last ten.

Also, the Sabres are finally even in team goal differential on the season as they have scored 155 goals while allowing only 155 goals.

The Sabres next play February 13th vs. the New York Islanders.
