Ohio To Take on East Tennessee State in CIT Quarterfinals

Ohio University men's basketball season isn't over yet. On Tuesday, they will take on East Tennessee State in the quarterfinals of the CIT.

I know the CIT is a joke, but isn't it exciting that the Bobcats are still playing basketball and have an opportunity to win a tournament.

Ohio is now 19-15 on the year and is three wins away from winning the Collegeinsider.com tournament. They are one of only two teams ever to have won a game in the NCAA tournament, the NIT, CBI, and the CIT. The only other team to have done so is Old Dominion.

Ohio has gotten to this point of the CIT by defeating Marshall in the first round. Marshall was the best team in the tournament and was believed to receive a bye into the quarterfinals had they beaten Ohio. Instead, Ohio won and received the bye to this point.

Tuesday night's game will take place at East Tennessee State and will be a tough game for the Bobcats to win. The Buccaneers are 23-11 and have beaten Dayton and Mississippi State this year.

If Ohio loses, it will be the last game for Bobcat seniors Tommy Freeman, DeVaughn Washington, Asown Sayles, and Adetunji Adedipe.

Prediction: Ohio 77-71, Bobcats move on to the CIT Final Four.

Sabres Legend Rick Martin Passes Away

Sunday was a sad day for Sabres fans as they found out that one of their idols has passed away.

Former Sabre and member of the French Connection, Rick Martin passed away after being involved in a one car crash on Sunday morning.

Martin was the fifth overall pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1971 NHL Draft. He scored 44 goals in his rookie season to set what was then a rookie record for most goals in a season.

He went on to play for the Sabres for 10 seasons before finishing out his career with the Los Angeles Kings. He finished his career with 384 goals and 317 assists for 701 points in 685 total games.

He was forced to retire at the age of 30 due to injuries that had slowed him down.

Martin had a presence in Buffalo and his absence will be felt. It had only been a little while ago that he had skated with his French Connection linemates on the ice of HSBC Arena while introducing Terry Pegula as the new owner of the Buffalo Sabres.

That was the last time Sabres fans saw the three former players together.

Rick Martin was only 59 at the time of his death.

He will be deeply missed.
